Beginners Drop Spindle

Morning Stitchers,

We had a lovely workshop with Michelle Law of Raven Handspun Yarn on Saturday. Michelle is a super teacher, and succeeded in teaching me how to drop spindle despite having lots of failed attempts previously.

It was fascinating to pop in on the workshop and see how everyone was progressing, although I didn’t get much of a chance until later on in the workshop. Here’s Michelle showing how to wind the two singles around your wrist in preparation for Andean plying

Watch and learn…

Then it was time to ply…

Michelle also brought lots of lovely samples of fibre with her, to explain the differences and also give our workshoppers a chance to feel different types

And she also brought some raw fibre and spinning related gadgets too

Our workshoppers went home happy with their mini skeins and new skills. They still had plenty of fibre left over to carry on practising with. Before you know it, they’ll have bought spinning wheels I’m sure!

If you’d like to have a go at drop spindling, you can see our current course dates and book online here. If you’d like to know more about Michelle and her work, you can do so here.
